Two plays that appear to tell two different stories about sacrifice.
The first, 'Altars', based on the story of Abraham and Isaac, is an up-close look at the concept of sacrifice, both in the literal sense, and in the day-to-day giving up of one's self as a parent or family member.
'Tombs' is a frank inquiry into the relationship between the Son of God and his mortal mother. While the situation here is invented, the emotions connected to it must be as real as the people who felt them.
In awarding the play its 2001 citation for best drama, the Association for Mormon Letters declared, "the similarities in the themes of faith and family reach across the years to bind the play[s] into one coherent story that is relevant today and will always be. 'Stones' sets a new standard for Mormon drama."
